Know your “right” candidate

In our previous article we discussed main reasons of getting “wrong” applicants for our job posts and mistakes that we do while creating description of our vacancies. BUT what we actually can do to catch “right” candidates that suit best for our open positions?

When our work is connected with people, it is always very useful to have at least some basic knowledge of one of personality assessment methodology. Therefore to create effective job post we should have better understanding of drivers that can motivate different types of people, tasks that may be interesting to ones and boring to others, ambitions that people may have. As a results, it will be very easy for us to use right words to be heard by right people.

Basically we can highlight 4 different types of personalities which we can for our convenience mark with 4 different colors:

1.RED

This personality is highlighted with following features:

  • Businesslike
  • Strong-willed
  • Determined
  • Target oriented

2. GREEN

For green personality it is very common to be:

  • Sympathetic
  • Patient
  • Reliable
  • Reassuring

3.BLUE

In blue zone people are always:

  • Accurate
  • Careful
  • Cautious
  • Reasonable
  • Formal

4.YELLOW

With yellow mentality following features become very common:

  • Open minded
  • Active
  • Motivating
  • Talkative
  • Sociable

As we can see people from different personality types will be very different, use absolutely different language, search for absolutely different type of work. Yes, for sure, all the people can actually do any work, but most effective they will be only by doing work that suits their personality.

So how we can apply this knowledge while creating job post?

First of all we need to always remember that if our job post for “red zone” vacancy is written using language of “yellow zone”, we will get “yellow zone” candidates not “red zone” that we are searching for. Before that you can practice to understand better personality types of people around you and make notes what language they use, what are their favorite words, what they like to do and what they do better. As a result your job posts would become better and start attracting right people.
